Daniel Williams journal and autobiography, 1852.

Collection contains the original as well as a typescript of the journal and autobiography of Daniel Williams spanning the years 1802-1853. It was written from notes and from his memory in 1852. The journal tells of his conversion and subsequent baptism as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Wales. It also records the many persecutions suffered by members of the church in Wales during that time.

Daniel Edward Williams was born on 23 December 1802 in Penally, Pembrokeshire, Wales, to John Williams and Ann Griffiths. His first wife died in 1846 while still in Wales leaving Daniel with 2 children, John and Mary. After years of searching for a religion that accorded with his beliefs he was taught the gospel by Elder William Davies and baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on March 18, 1847.
